Deborah Abrahams

Coaching and consultancy for talks, pitches and presentations

I help speakers shape their ideas into powerful words and deliver them so they make the impact they deserve. Because people who give good presentations know they can be even better.

Workshops

I offer group workshops, either in person or online, to develop pitching and presentation skills. My workshops for groups are still geared to the individual. Participants generally give a prepared mini-presentation or pitch during the session, so we work hands-on with relevant material. I support my feedback and coaching with exercises to develop particular skills. The participants range from c-level to sales teams.

SPECIFIC, ACTIVE, PRACTICAL

A typical workshop starts with warm-up and preparatory exercises selected for the particular group.

Participants then give their prepared presentations or pitches. I provide individual feedback and tips on content and delivery. I make sure the whole group participates so everyone can pool knowledge and learn from one another.

Coaching and feedback is punctuated by exercises to develop specific skills, such as using visuals, making eye contact or developing a narrative. I introduce exercises in direct response to the needs of participants during their pitches. In this way, participants make the link between theory and practice and see a direct benefit.

By working specifically, actively and practically, participants develop skills and confidence that stay with them in the long term. I avoid lecturing about generalities or imposing lists of generic rules. I aim to help each individual find the way to communicate that best suits their own content and personal style.

Focus areas can include:

  • Online presentation skills, with tips on connecting with your audience, making the most of visuals, and dodging the pitfalls. The bar is set low, so don’t copy the crowd – with a few basic principles and Zoom-hacks, you can stand out and shine.

  • The real way to use PowerPoint, either live or online – most people around the world are getting it wrong most of the time, yet it’s obvious and effective when you see it.

  • Why telling stories works better than listing facts – practical ways to apply a storytelling mindset to any kind of content, and boost your audience’s understanding, engagement and buy-in.

  • Visual storytelling – principles for charts and infographics that bring information to life. Instead of leaving the viewer baffled by a puzzle of lines and figures, lead them intuitively to the point.

  • Finding the way to prepare and present that matches your style, and dealing with nerves, whether you’re standing on a stage or looking into a webcam.

One-to-one sessions online

Before the workshop, I always ask participants to complete an online intake form. I also offer the option of scheduling individual sessions online with each participant in the run-up to the workshop. An individual 30-minute preparatory session online is a highly effective way to boost the value of the time spent in the group workshop. On the day, we hit the ground running.

custom-made proposal

My workshops need a minimum of four hours in person or three hours online, with a maximum of ten participants. If desired, I can provide a workshop-specific handout to take away. Please contact me for more information on prices and practicalities. I’ll listen carefully to your needs in an online intake, and make a detailed, custom-made proposal.
